This web Site is designed to stop the discrimination against the disabled.

I choose this topic because it is very close to my heart. Since I was born I was raised around my cousin Charlie, Charlie is currently 27 years old. Throughout the years he has strugled with a mental disablity. His disability has caused him a great amount of pain, do to the way he was treated. My goal is to create a way to teach our children to accept each other for who they are.

Society views its culture as flawed and imperfect. When a child looks different because of race, or a disability others begin to think of them as imperfect. Instead of blue skies and green grass the world is covered with a haze of addiction to be perfect. No one is ever good enough. We live in a world of judgment and therefore this world can not be perfect, but that does not mean our culture can not accept each other. Those who are judgmental rob children of their innocence before they get a chance to discover who they are. Society strives to mold those who are viewed as flawed into perfect beings instead of letting them grow into who they were created to be. Parents are judging others and are showing their kids, this causes children to think that it is ok. The fact is parents shelter their children from the world, as well as the disabled in it. Although it is important to protect our children from harm, it is also important to teach them to respect each other. The fear of the people causes the disabled child to recognize that he or she is different. This is how the problem of discrimination begins. Children live what they learn. When a child lives with criticism, they learn to condemn, when a child lives with discrimination they are taught to discriminate, and when they live with shame for which they are, they learn to feel guilty for being themselves. If children are taught to accept those who are different at a young age, it will usually carry with them throughout their youth and into adulthood. Children need to learn to love the world for what it is, the only way to achieve love is to be loved, and learn to appreciate themselves and others. In society, people judge by the way people look, act, and walk. People in today’s culture say society should not be prejudice against those who are different. The fact is people treat the disabled as if they were from another planet. The problem in society is that our culture makes the disabled feel as if they don’t belong in this world.
